The Mercury M3 is the workhorse of the Mercury carbon wheel line up. Weighing-in at less than most climbing wheels, the M3’s are the wheel of choice when the road turns up or when you need to get things done. Utilizing our seamless rim technology and wider rim profile, you will gain a bit of aerodynamic advantage even from our shallowest rim profile.
Stiffer than they are light, the M3s were the wheels the SmartStop Professional Cycling Team chose to help them win countless races this year.
Our M3 Clincher wheels aren't just a one-trick pony for climbing. The M3s' aerodynamic pedigree, low weight, and brute strength also recommend them for all the ups, downs, and flat-outs of competitive cycling. They cover the demands of every terrain on every day of your cycling life.
The M3 rims measure 30 millimeters, a depth that strikes an all-purpose middle ground between straight-on aerodynamics, hiding from crosswinds, and considerations of weight for climbing. The M3 is a solid 24mm wide, which means you can run lower PSI for a more comfortable ride that corners with unparalleled confidence. Wider rims also have some counter-intuitive effects when compared to those standard 19 millimeter rims: they actually decrease rolling resistance and increase aerodynamics.
The M3s are laced with Sapim spokes, their most popular bladed model, which are capable of withstanding a claimed one million load reversals of fatigue testing while still saving weight courtesy of their proprietary butting. They connect to proprietary Mercury Pro hubs, which engage with 3 pawls for a nearly immediate responsiveness that takes advantage of the rims' low rotational inertia. The front hub has an extra-wide 72 millimeter flange for reduced flex under hard efforts and confident stability at speed. Both hubs have a 15 millimeter axle that tapers to accommodate a traditional quick release and two and four over-sized bearings in the front and back, respectively.
The Mercury M3 Clincher Wheelset comes with either Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo 11-speed compatible freehub body and includes skewers, valve extenders, brake pads, and rim strip. Mercury recommends a rider weight limit of 250 pounds.
